Want my felony expunged?!?! Can anyone help me??????

: Hi there, I know nothing about this stuff, so I could really use some advice! :-) a year ago I was convicted of a felony: grand theft.  However, I am an animal rights activist and we were releasing abused animals from cages and this is what we were charged with! I have no criminal history and this is a very unusual case! I am wanting to go into a career that wants me to be licensed (medical field) and know my felony will be a problem.  Can I get it expunged or should I get it reduced to a misdemenor? Which is preferable and why? Which is possible for me? I have also totally rehabilitated myself since the crime(I was very ill physically). I don't know what they look at.... what can I do about wiping out this silly felony off my record? Thanks SO much for any help! :-)
