How do I plea down a forgery charge? How low can I go?

I have yet to be charged. I copied my teaching certificate, altered the expiration date and gave it to my employer. I subsequently told the employer what I did and reported my unethical conduct to the state professional standards commission. I am fearful now of going to jail or other criminal reprecussions. I did come forth before anyone knew. I resigned and helped the new teacher get started with my class. I know that I will probably loose my teaching certificate. I am most woried about criminal implications. I do not know what to expect. I did not hurt anyone, cost anyone money, or cause harm outside of the harm caused to myself and my family.
